Beetaloo momentum builds at AEP conference as first gas nears
The Northern Territory strengthened its position as a leading energy producer this week at the 2026 Australian Energy Producers (AEP) conference and exhibition in Adelaide, with the Beetaloo sub-basin now less than 100 days away from first gas production.
The conference provided an important platform to showcase the Territory’s growing role in supporting Australia’s energy security and attracting national and international investment into the resources sector.
With first gas from the Beetaloo imminent, the Territory is entering a transformational phase in its energy future.
The Tamboran/Daly Waters Energy joint venture is expected to deliver 40 terajoules of gas per day into the Territory market, helping strengthen domestic supply while supporting jobs and economic growth.
Strong momentum across the basin was highlighted throughout the conference, including completion of APA’s Sturt Plateau pipeline and the nearing completion of the Shenandoah South gas processing facility. Additional supply from Beetaloo Energy Australia is also expected later this year, while Santos Ltd is preparing to drill 3 new wells in the Beetaloo from mid-2026.
The Territory also promoted major enabling infrastructure projects, including the proposed 670km Territory Energy Link, which is expected to unlock further private investment and strengthen the Territory’s role in Australia’s long-term energy supply chain.
Industry interest in the Beetaloo continues to grow, with the Territory’s latest acreage release covering approximately 4,000 square km near key infrastructure including the Amadeus Gas Pipeline and Stuart Highway attracting strong attention from explorers and investors.
The strong industry engagement at the conference reinforced the Beetaloo’s emergence as a globally competitive gas province and highlighted the Territory’s growing importance in delivering reliable energy for Australia’s future.
