NT Government awards record $4 million to drive Territory exploration and future mining projects
The NT Government is continuing its strong support for the Territory’s resources sector, announcing a record $4.09 million in funding under the Geophysics and Drilling Collaborations (GDC) program to drive exploration, innovation and local jobs.
Round 19 of the program (2026/2027) will support 34 projects from 26 companies as part of the broader Resourcing the Territory initiative, with Tivan Limited, Prodigy Gold NL, Core Lithium, Daly Resources Pty Ltd and Agnico Eagle NT Pty Ltd among the successful recipients.
The Territory’s value of mineral production in 2024/25 was $4.36 billion.
The projects include 16 greenfields drilling programs, 4 brownfields diamond drilling programs, 9 regional-scale geophysical surveys, 3 innovative targeting projects, and 2 projects under the mineral characterisation and test work category.
Nearly 60% of funded projects involve drilling, reflecting strong exploration activity and an increased focus on testing new targets across the Northern Territory.
Copper was the most targeted commodity, accounting for 56% of successful applications, as well as gold, uranium, rare earths and tungsten.
Grants are awarded on a competitive basis to projects of high technical merit that have the potential to significantly advance exploration and resource development in the Territory.
