Darwin Energy Hub
The proposed Darwin Energy Hub is a key initiative in the Territory to boost sustainable energy generation.
Once complete, the Hub will have the capacity to generate up to 180 to 210 megawatts of sustainable energy with associated battery storage, playing an important role in delivering more affordable, secure and reliable energy for Territory households and businesses connected to the Darwin-Katherine electricity system.
The proposed Hub aims to build large-scale solar farms near existing transmission infrastructure to maximise generation and minimise connection costs.
The proposed site is located on the west side of Finn Road, comprising 940 hectares of Crown Land about 19km south of Palmerston and 4km north of Berry Springs. The development area within the proposed site is approximately 500ha.
All electricity produced within the Hub will be fed directly into the Darwin-Katherine grid, supplying renewable power to Territory households and businesses.
Providing an electricity system with an optimal mix of thermal generation, renewable energy resources and battery storage will ensure energy security, downward pressure on electricity costs, and job opportunities for Territorians.
