Exploration permit application objections
The Petroleum Act 1984 (the Act) includes provisions for objections and submissions to be made on an application for an exploration permit.
Under section 18 of the Act an objection to an exploration permit application can be lodged during the public notification period.
Under section 19 of the Act, objections received are published on the department’s website. The applicant has 30 days to respond to objections should it choose to do so. The applicant may also choose not to respond.
All objections and any responses are considered by the Minister for Mining and Energy at the time of determining to grant the exploration permit, or not.
