Appropriate person statement of reasons

Statement of reasons why an applicant, and any associated entity, is or is not an appropriate person to hold a petroleum licence or permit under the Petroleum Act 1984.

An applicant, and any associated entity, must demonstrate that it is an appropriate person before:

• the grant or renewal of a licence or permit
• the transfer of a licence or permit (if it is not already a holder)
• acquiring 100% of shares in a body corporate that is the holder of a licence or permit.

The criteria is set out under 15A of the Petroleum Act 1984.

A statement of reasons explaining why an applicant, and any associated entity, is or is not an appropriate person, are published below.

This assessment criteria is also to be met for grant, renewal and transfer applications under all other Energy Development branch legislation including:

• Geothermal Energy Act 2009
• Energy Pipelines Act 1981
• Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1981
• Petroleum (Prospecting and Mining Act).

A statement of reasons as to why an applicant is or not determined to be an appropriate person to hold a permit of licence under legislation other than the Petroleum Act 1984, will be prepared for decision making purposes but is not required to be published.
