Mineral production data

Northern Territory (NT) production data on mining leases is collected under the Mineral Titles Act 2010.

How it's used

The NT Government uses the production data to monitor and regulate mining operations in the NT.

Additionally, the data provides insights into the mining industry's contribution to the economy and helps with future planning and decision-making.

Collection and reporting

The quality of the data depends on the production reports submitted by the mining operators.

Therefore, the government works closely with operators to ensure they understand their reporting requirements and to improve the quality of the data provided.

Background

Before 2001, data was collected under the Mining Act. In 2002, this was incorporated in the Mining Management Act.

Production reporting requirements on mineral leases and extractive mineral leases moved from the Mining Management Act to the Mineral Titles Act on 17 November 2011.
